Irish Design 2015 – Making Design Matter

Design is everywhere – from household objects to the high-tech innovations in science, business and technology. The year of design in Ireland is a conscious gesture by the country to involve a wider audience and the relevant professionals into a productive dialogue on the benefits of recognizing design as important to both culture and the economy.

Alex Milton, the programming director for ID2015, will be arriving in Plovdiv to tell us more about the initiative. In his roles as a designer, pedagogue, researcher, curator and author, he has contributed to the discipline in a critical, provocative and enterprising manner. Alex Milton has often been a visiting professor in different higher education institutions, and has participated in events such as ICFF New York, 100% Design London, MUDAC Lausanne, INDEX Copenhagen and Designersblock Milan. He has a number of international publications, the last of which is the book “Research Methods for Product Design”, co-authored with Paul Rodgers (2013). Milton is a member of the Institute of Designers in Ireland and a Fellow of the Royal Society of the Arts.
