LOCAL FOOD DESIGN 2016 is the first initiative of its kind in the country. It will take place as part of ONE DESIGN WEEK with the support of the America for Bulgaria Foundation and the Municipality of Plovdiv. The organizer of the expo is LocalFood.bg, a network of small Bulgarian food producers, which promotes better access to the market and encourages policies that regulate sustainable production.
LOCAL FOOD DESIGN 2016 will present artisanal takes on farm, craft, and traditional foods with a special focus on their attractive presentation and packaging. The products will be representative of Bulgarian tradition, countryside culture, and handcraft. The participants will be local food artisans, fans of the culinary arts, bloggers, craft breweries, as well as small bio-wineries.
The events will be divided in the following categories:
BREAD DESIGN – beautifully crafted breads, buns , and filo dough pies, with an emphasis on natural products and technologies.
PASTRY DESIGN – beautifully crafted pastries and sweets such as cakes, tarts, mousses, candies, etc. with an emphasis on natural products and technologies.
JAM, HONEY AND LYUTENITSA DESIGN – beautifully crafted jars with jams, jellies, honey, lyutenitsa(red pepper dip), prepared from family recipes and homegrown produce.
DESIGN FROM THE VILLAGE – cured meat and dairy products, nuts, fresh fruits and vegetables, etc. grown sustainably and made with traditional family recipes and technologies.
CRAFT BEER AND WINE DESIGN – craft beer, farmer and bio-wines with designer labels.
In addition to attracting a wider audience to the colorful local foods, the expo aims raise the producers’ awareness to a more conscious appreciation of the artful and aesthetic presentation of their products. This is why, on the 19th of June, the best designs in the five product categories will be awarded by the audience with a special “BEST LOCAL FOOD DESIGN AWARD 2016”.
