On June 18th, 2016, the professional design forum of the festival will be held at the House of Culture “Boris Hristov” (Ul. Gladstone 15). The lecturers feature leading experts in multiple fields of design presenting a holistic perspective of design and its possibilities. Design that helps; design that is innovative and alternative; design that changes lives and worlds; design that is open and accessible to all.
Alice Rawsthorn (England) is the first speaker of the program. A prominent international critic in the field of contemporary design, she is also an active and highly sought after curator. For many years, her work has shown how contemporary design is constantly changing, optimizing, and facilitating our daily lives. Ms. Rawsthorn has been a columnist to prestigious publications such as the New York Times, Frieze, and W; has authored books of her own including: Hello World: Where Design Meets Life, and Yves Saint Laurent: A biography; and has performed lectures for TED, World Economic Forum, and Design Indaba. Alice Rawsthorn excites with her unique style, and through her professional achievements, has become an absolute authority on design.
Eisuke Tachikawa (Japan) is founder of the multidisciplinary studio, Nosigner. He has a specific approach, with an emphasis on social innovation, open source design, and rethinking the relationship between people and objects. His projects and professional expressions are unique and go beyond traditional design, such as his creation of the Mozilla office in Japan. The designer has won numerous awards including Design for Asia Grand award, iF Design Award, PENTAWARDS PLATINUM, SDA Grand Award, and others. Eisuke Tachikawa came to Bulgaria with support of EU JAPAN FEST.
Pieter-Jan Pieters (Holland) is the founder of the studio OWOW (The Omnipresent World of Wis Kids). Premeditated fun and intuitive perception stand at the center of the studio’s innovation, design, new technology, and engineering. Ever since his graduation project, Sound on Intuition at the Design Academy Eindhoven, Pieter-Jan has associated movements of the human body to musical tones, creating beautiful minimalistic instruments activated by motion. The project quickly won numerous awards and became internationally recognized, growing into the main focus of the creative work of Pieter-Jan. With that, in 2012 he founded OWOW and gathered other experimenters from the worlds of production design, conceptualization of the future, web design, programming, engineering, electronics, and others. Pieter-Jan Pieters comes to Bulgaria with the support of Creative Industries Fund NL.
